now, before anyone says www.kellymom.com or "call your lactation consultant" I want to say, I all ready did that, and will be visiting the LC later next week. But in the last 3 weeks or so, usually pleasant nursing has become painful, esp on the right boob. There is def. blanching, and the nipple comes out smushed almost flat. Im working on improving latch and using different positions. But I still sometimes cry out in pain when she nurses. Im determined to continue, but I really have begun to dread nursing on the right. I think she is teething, and I do break the seal when she starts to gum down, and Ive been putting the lanolin on too. Not sure what else to do at this point.

  • Ouch!! I remember this was very painful but harmless!! (According to medical fact It is related to 'white nuckle syndrome' that an operator of a power tool may get from lack of circulation in knuckle joint while holding same position for a while and apparent vibration in varying degree!!.)
    - I'm not sure how that image has anything to do with how I fed my babies??!! but... I got it a few times as a teen in cold weather then again when breastfeeding my second and third baby (occasionally) I didn't have it with my first or fourth baby. I breastfed 4 babies spanning seven and a half years and was a lactation consultant with Australian Breastfeeding Association at our local hospital and only rarely saw this. All Mothers agreed it was painfull, it could sometimes be relieved somewhat by warmth. I didn't really see any pattern and I remember one side being worse than the other.
I kept on with feeding, I had to wait until the 'spasms' subsided but I'm glad I did because it went as suddenly as it came and I could keep feeding.

    Hope this helps.
