what do they look like? i've got a big ol' bump on my areola that doesn't hurt just yet but it's big and menacing looking. i was wondering what it might be and clogged duct was the first thing to come to mind.

a bump (especially if it's white-ish) on the areola is probably a Montgomery gland that's a little inflamed. IT acts to lubricate your skin. Clogged ducts are more often on the breast itself.

then again, maybe others have had clogged ducts up on the areola?

Now that we're actively weaning, I've noticed that I get a lump UNDER my areola (in my actual breast, under the skin, as opposed to something on the areola itself). It also doesn't hurt, but it feels similar to when I got a clogged duct more toward my armpit (this happened twice and quickly got super painful). So, that's been my sign to offer Max a little bit of nursing, just enough to get the lump out. So far it's working.

hmm... the only clogs i've had have been in the nipple itself. looks like a whitehead where you know one of your holes is.
