body/mind changes post weaning

my 1 year old daughter just self weaned about a week and a half ago, and it's been totally seamless, which i am completely thankful for, but i've noticed that over the last week and a half that my energy levels, metabolism and mood have been really low while my appetite has been high. i feel really bloated and down and i'm thinking it is related to weaning, but i am not sure since it's been many months since she nursed for any real sustenance (demand has gradually tapered off since she's gotten into solid food over the last 6 months).

i suppose i should also mention that i am not at all sad about the end to our breastfeeding relationship. it was a wonderful experience for both of us, and i am really grateful that in the end it was my little girl who decided it was time to end that chapter of our relationship. i would have felt awful if i felt like i was depriving her of something she wanted. thankfully that has not at all been the case and i could not be more relieved!!

that being said, though i am happy about the ease of transition for both of us, i feel so unlike myself and i am not at all sure how to handle it. i was so desperate for an explanation that i even went out and bought a pregnancy test!! it was negative but now i am still left with no explanation for this change in my body and mind. anyone have any insight into this? your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as always!

I betcha bottom dollar it´s all hormonal! Even if your girl hasn´t been bfing all that much recently your body was still producing those hormones and now it must be in kinda a funk, kinda like after you give birth your body is in hormonal withdrawl.

Ask your doc about what you can do to help your body transition. I bet there are certain foods/vitamins that can help you to not feel so down and bloated.

yep, agreed, your hormones are probably just a little out of whack. I had the exact same experience when my son weaned himself. If you're anything like me, it'll pass quickly and soon you'll be feeling great! A few things that helped me out of my funk: jogging, yoga, and, a weekend away (by myself!) for the first time in, like, over two years!

        whew.

well, i've been forcing myself to continue my usual workout routine and that's helping a little but i feel so sluggish!!

and funny you should mention the weekend away because this very weekend we are heading down to big sur to camp while cookie vacations with grammy and bapa (my mom and dad). it is totally our first time away from her for more than a night (and we've only done that a few times). i'm excited!!
