breastfeeding while pregnant?

I knew I was pregnant before the test came back positive- first had a morning with that weird metallic taste in my mouth, then my milk supply dropped by about 30% (when I pump). My baby just turned 10 months old and still breastfeeds A LOT though he loves to eat other food as well... and though I'm probably only 5 weeks pregnant we've gone through a good chunk of my modest supply of frozen milk because I'm no longer able to pump enough at work to supply him for the next day. My boobs don't seem to get as full as they used to- hardly feel full at all- however when I'm home baby seems to be getting enough. I really want to keep boobing him as his primary nutrition until he's at least a year, and then keep going at least part-time until 2 years or longer... but I'm so worried about my supply now! To make matters worse, while he loves food he HATES formula and won't drink it. So if we don't have enough breastmilk pumped, hubby will be dealing with an irate baby who wants boob juice and wants it NOW. Baby is very willing to cry for well over an hour straight when he wants boob juice and it isn't forthcoming.

Thoughts? Experiences with breastfeeding while pregnant? I'm freaking out a little...

i don't have any specific bf'ing-while-pregnant advice, since your guy is 10 months old you could maybe supplement your breastmilk supply with a 2-3oz. backup bottle of goat's milk .. www.meyenberg.com/

we started adding it to her bottle routine ( one full 6oz. bm, one 3oz. bm & one 2-3oz meyenberg goat's milk for every 8 hours i was away ) while i was at work at just around 10 months old ... it took the pumping pressure off and i was more relaxed for the last three months ( our choice to stop at 12/13 months ) of pumping, hence more breastmilk, but being pregnant changes things for you, so i'll leave that to the experienced mommas ...

if you choose to go w/ goat's, you could blend a small amount w/ your breastmilk just to get him accustomed to the taste .. we did for the first, i'd say, six 3oz. bottles and after, she took the goat's plain with no problem after that, but we never tried it plain to begin with, so maybe i'm just imagining that she'd have hated it ...

blahblah .. sorry for the ramble ...

      good luck!

I breastfed my older son through my second pregnancy and then tandem nursed for two years, so it is definitely doable! However, with your baby being so young and really needing the caloric intake from your milk, you might talk to a LLL leader about ideas on what to try if he won't take formula.

Check out Kellymom's preg/tandem info; there's lots of info! www.kellymom.com/bf/tandem/index.html
