I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting this question ALL THE TIME now. Juni is 20 months and BFing is starting to make people uncomfortable. Most people ask this question with a tone that borders on fear/curiosity/revultion. I haven't been very good at answering without becoming defensive.
How do you answer this question?

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed her?"
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 3:00 PMMy answer:
As long as is mutually comfortable for the both of us.
I also tell people:
I lost weight through her breastfeeding... if this keeps up I want her to breastfeed until she's in her 20's!
I understand people being curious, so I don't really feel defensive about it. -

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed her?"
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 11:01 PMOMG...awesome.
I got looks when I was still nursing my son at 15 months. Ridiculous. I think the minimum recommended time to nurse by Dr. Sears is 2 years. People are LAME LAME LAME!!! I hope no one asks me any of those questions. It's rude and none of their business. -

Wed, July 2, 2008 - 11:20 PM"maybe never! i like to give narrow-minded people something to feel uptight about."
"as soon as you can get him down for a nap without my boobs"
"how long are you going to be nosy?"
"i'll wean him when you learn how to mind your own business!" -

Re: "How long are you going to breastfeed her?"
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 11:57 AMI pretty much smile, shrug, and make a gentle noise like, "meh!"
My in-laws seem to see nursing as an odd habit. Harmless, but a novelty.
I found that if I didn't preach or make a big deal about it, neither have they.
Both kids nursed till they were almost-three, and I never got a negative word about it.
