Go Sesame Street!

A friend of mine just posted this video of Sesame Street. It's from back in the '70s. Not only does it explain about breastfeeding, but the mother is actually breastfeeding on television! I mean, it is simplified so kids can understand, but still! Yay for Sesame Street!

Awww that almost makes me want to cry. So awesome!

You know the sad thing is if Sesame street did that now they would probably have a big commotion from a bunch of conservatives who think breastfeeding should be done in private or something.

YES. yet they find it acceptable to have a major character with a serious speech impediment (baby bear). it makes me crazy.

yes. and let's face it, abby cadabby is not so bright, which totally *infuriates* me since abigail will be watching when she's older.

        boobies are no big deal!

Have to say, Sesame Street just ain't what it used to be. I rented some vintage SS on Netflix and loved it, but we got some Elmo's World for Sam and I was appalled. There was a segment on babies--showed babies drinking out of bottles and in strollers, no babies nursing at all. The cartoon portion showed how to deal with a baby, if it cries, stick a bottle in its mouth, basically. Same with a book a friend gave Sam on the SS babies at bed time. Showed them using dolls, blankets, bottles and pacifiers to go to sleep. None were nursing or sleeping with their parents. Aargh.

And what's with Elmo always referring to himself in the third person? How did they get the idea that characters who have speech impediments are desirable? What's up with that?

I remember that particular Sesame Street show! I was still a kid at home but i wasnt that young, there must not have been anything eles on the tv at that time.... it was very memorable, and awakening for me. it had a super positive effect on me, i `got` that it was a totaly beautiful, natural and healthy part of life. That was my first positive expeirence about breastfeeding, and Ive just completed over 4 years of breastfeeding my son, it was no doubt one of the most amazing experiences ive ever had, and at last he chose to finish on his own, he said he is a big boy now. I never imagined we would continue till 4, but we did what felt right for us. it was beautiful.

thats realy sad about elmo and the baby bottles though..

i love the old sesame street!
